A Taliban Official Exploits Female Teachers by Threatening to Dismiss Them

Mawlawi Habibullah Mutawazi, the Taliban's director of education in Sheikh Ali district of Parwan province, has been exploiting female teachers in the district's schools through threats and coercion. A source in Parwan, sharing a video of a meeting between Mawlawi Habibullah and one of the female teachers, stated that dissatisfaction with this Taliban official has been growing among teachers. In the video, the Taliban education director in Sheikh Ali district can be seen engaging in inappropriate behavior, telling the female teacher, "You and I are friends."

Mawlawi Habibullah also tells the female teacher that he will sign her proposal because "we are friends." At the beginning of the video, the Taliban official is seen shaking hands with the female teacher and then touching her body.

Mawlawi Habibullah Mutawazi's actions come despite a recent decree issued by Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada. In the new law on promoting virtue and preventing vice, which was enacted and published last week, he declared that it is forbidden for non-related men and women to speak to each other, and he described the voice, face, and body of women as "awrat" (to be covered).
